all these were +/-

45. blade runner
46. suspiria
47. rob roy
48. 27 dresses
49. the jane austen book club
50. shakespeare in love
maybe it’s because i saw this movie 10 years after it was released, but … this was the best movie that year? really?
51. indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull
entertaining, but there quite a few parts where i turned to my friend and said “OH LIKE HE COULD REALLY SURVIVE THAT.” and “I’M SURE A GREASER COULD SWING FROM VINES LIKE TARZAN ON THE FIRST TRY.”

More sleep problems!

So after I wrote about my little sleeping problem, it stopped happening. Weird.

This one doesn’t happen often. As far as I can remember, it’s only happened three times. The first time was when I was 12 years old. My cousins and I were cooling off in an air conditioned room in my grandma’s house and we all fell asleep. I woke up alone some time later and I wanted to find my cousins. I stood up, but one of my legs couldn’t bear the weight and I fell. It wasn’t asleep because I didn’t get that “pins and needles” feeling. After a one to a few minutes, I was okay again. The second time happened 6 months ago and the third happened last night. Usually, it only occurs when I wake up suddenly and try to walk. It’s like this, but just in my right leg and without the hallucinations.

worst interview so far

I had a job interview last week and, for the first time, I left the interview and did not want the job at all.

The interviewer, who was the owner, showed me one of his future projects. It was a subject, an illustration representing the subject, and then “It’s a Good Thing” after it. He was planning on printing it on bags, mugs, etc. First of all… “It’s a good thing“? Martha Stewart? What? Before he explained the idea to me, he pulled up the logotype on the screen. It was awful. It was in a font similar to comic sans and the word ‘good’ was arranged so that the “OOD” formed a smiley face inside of a serifed G. I was three feet away from the computer screen and I read “It’s a G thing.” (and wondered “Is he a fan of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg?“)

I get that I can’t just completely change this guy’s ideas if I’m designing and illustrating for him, but from the way he talked about the position and the guy he hired to do the artwork, I got the impression that I wouldn’t have any input at all.

… and the salary was pretty terrible too.

Monday Muxtape

A) Technically, it’s Sunday night but I’m posting this now because it’s my blog and I’ll post if I want to.
B) I’m ripping off of C and Emma with this one.

Ever since I watched I’m Not There, I’ve been in a Bob Dylan mood. I’ve been listening to Blonde On Blonde while driving to work and I’ve decided that I sound absolutely ridiculous when I try to sing those songs. … so I made a Muxtape of people who sound a little bit better when they try to sing Bob Dylan songs + some Dylan songs at the end. Most of the songs are from the I’m Not There soundtrack, which wasn’t as great as I thought it was going to be.

Click To Listen
1)Stephen Malkmus & The Million Dollar Bashers – Maggie’s Farm
I don’t know why, but the beginning of this cover reminds me of the theme song to some game show. I want to say Family Feud…

2) Richie Havens – Tombstone Blues

3) Paul Westerberg – Positively 4th Street
Not on the soundtrack, but I had to add a Westerberg track

4) Mason Jennings – The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll

5) Jeff Tweedy – Simple Twist of Fate
I really want to like this song, but I can’t because of the one at the bottom of the playlist…

6) The Black Crowes – Girl From The North Country
Not on the soundtrack, but I wanted to add a black crowes track since they do quite a bit of dylan covers.

7) Yo La Tengo – 4th Time Around

8 ) Cat Power – Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again
the only thing that annoys me about this is the way she says “Mama”

9) Marcus Carl Franklin – When The Ship Comes In

10) Bob Dylan – Simple Twist Of Fate

11) Bob Dylan – Spanish Harlem Incident

12) Bob Dylan – Ballad Of A Thin Man
