I decided that I suck at life (and interviewing) and got myself a crap job that will pay for my knitting habit and the property tax while I continue the Never-Ending, Self-Esteem-Crushing Job Hunt. The person interviewing me for the crap job asked me what my strengths were. I blanked out and could not think of one positive thing to say about myself. Nice.
For the first time in a long time, there is nothing wrong with my car. It starts when it is hot out. The radiator and the front brakes were replaced. The radio is working again.
I had a “Real Job” interview with a company in north Jersey today. I can never tell how these go. I think it went okay, but I could’ve been crap compared to other applicants. Pos: designing for kids, fun environment (according to them.), yarn store across the street. Neg: …
Like everything else, rice is becoming more and more expensive. My dad nearly peed his pants when he saw a 20 pound bag of his favorite brand of rice on sale for $5.99 at the Stop & Shop. At the Filipino store, it costs more than twice that amount for a 25 pound bag. I read in Financial Times that the Philippines is one of the biggest importers of rice and 8 out of 10 Filipinos eat rice three times a day. When I visited my grandmother and aunts last year, they were constantly asking why I wasn’t eating more rice. Fried rice in the morning makes me queasy. Food from our local Filipino restaurant also makes me sick. I don’t know if it’s the way they cook their dishes or if it’s the meat they use, but something about their food doesn’t taste right.
Speaking of food, my dad is going to the philippines for a month. weee! I am probably going to cook all these non-filipino things for myself. Hummus, asparagus risotto, this, and this are already on my list. What are your favorite recipes? What food blogs do you go to? I only know of the Simply Recipes website.
38. Juno +
Liked it, but … oscar nominated? Hmm. Allison Janney’s character was great. It seems that I like Moldy Peaches songs when they are not sung by the Moldy Peaches.
39. Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead +/-
pretty messed up family.
40. American Psycho -
pretty messed up guy.
41. The Orphanage +
I thought it was sad rather than scary, but it had its creepy moments.
42. Walk Hard -
Had some funny moments, but I didn’t enjoy the rest
43. Factory Girl -
“Poor little rich girl.”
44. I’m Not There +
Honestly? If I wasn’t a fan of the music and if I didn’t know a little bit about Bob Dylan, I don’t know if I’d like the film.
35. Atonement +/-
I ruined the ending for myself by reading the wikipedia entry.
36. Sweeney Todd +
Enjoyable.
37. There Will Be Blood +
Surprised. I thought I wouldn’t like this.
+/- The job interview was okay.
- I didn’t need to bring my portfolio. The hiring manager (not the person I talked to today) will look through the resumes, narrow it down, and then will look through the applicants’ portfolios.
- There are over 100 people applying for the same position. I think my chances are slim, but it would be awesome to work for such a well known publisher.
+ Ate lunch with friends I haven’t seen in a while.
- I couldn’t fit an extra pair of shoes or flip-flops into my giant portfolio bag this morning. I did not plan on walking as far as I did and, after walking back and forth for a while, I really had to give in and buy overpriced flip-flops at some American Eagle. There were ugly, inexpensive ones, but if I’m going to shell out the money, I might as well buy the ones that I am going to wear more than once. Of course, a cheap shoe store appeared once I walked a block in the flip-flops.
+ Visited Strand Bookstore for the first time. OH MY GOODNESS. I planned on buying a book, but there were so many that I couldn’t choose!
+ Went to Whole Foods to buy something to eat on the train ride home. I FOUND SKYR! It wasn’t as sweet as I expected it to be, but I don’t mind that. I liked it a lot.
This afternoon, I forwarded this Dooce entry to one of my best friends because that would be us if we ever ran into Rick Springfield at an airport. She would run up, sing “Jessie’s Girl”, ask him to sign her bra, and then talk to him about how much she hates Sonny Corinthos. I would be hiding behind our luggage.
After posting the link, I went to check my phone. 1 voice mail, 1 missed call from this same friend at 1AM. Oh no.
At first, I could only hear screaming, but then realized that she was singing. That went on for about two minutes.

I got around to watching Arrested Development and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Both make me laugh like crazy. I had no idea this site existed until someone mentioned it on Ravelry. Hooray for catching up with season 3 of It’s Always Sunny…
I’ve been making a book. I didn’t want it to be just another blank sketchbook and I wanted an excuse to practice in InDesign, so I asked some of my friends if they could send me any short stories or essays. There are a few mistakes and rough edges (I really want a paper guillotine), but I think it looks okay for my first book. I probably will be joining the cover and paper block tomorrow and I will start binding the children’s story I illustrated during junior year for my portfolio because…
I have an interview with a book publisher on Tuesday. I checked the current openings after someone in HR sent me their website and it seems that I’ve found a position that I want a little more than the one I’m applying for. I don’t know if I should apply now or after Tuesday or if I should even apply. Oy vey.
