I sent my final illustration to the client a few days ago. He and his wife were really happy with it. (yay, ego boost!) I met with them this morning so they could pay me. (yay, money!) It turns out that they want logos for their other two companies and they would like me to continue with the illustrations for the first company. (yay, more money!) So now, I’ve been planning out illustrations with different guitar bodies. It’s all very exciting and, after staring at pictures of guitars all day, I can sort of identify Gibson Les Pauls, Rickenbackers, and Fender Strats. I know it’s probably not that hard, but I am someone who knows nothing about guitars except that they produce sounds that i like and sounds that i don’t like.

After 3 years, I want to change the domain name of this website… again. I’d keep spitfire.cc until it expires in May 08, but I’d have both names point to the site. At first, I was thinking of changing to a simple .com, .net, or .org in order to save money*, but the name that I had my heart set on was taken in everything except .cc. Then it became about the name. It’s always about the name… I’d still be paying the same as spitfire, but I’d have a name that I liked a little more. Then I started making up bullshit about why I should change. There are three main domain names I used… The first two were about my last two years of HS and my first year of college. This one is about my college years. And the next one can be about everything after… BULL.CRAP.

I am really tempted. UGHRHHR. Should I?
… This wouldn’t be happening if my college didn’t send me $150 for god knows what.

*.CC names are $19.99/year at godaddy

I’ve been doing so much stuff in Illustrator and Photoshop over the last couple of years that I’ve forgotten how much I love to draw. My aversion to drawing thumbnails for projects (Bad Denise!) has turned into an aversion to drawing. One of the illustration professors kind of warned me about this when I told him I wasn’t going to do the illustration thing. Maybe if he wasn’t such a boring teacher, I would’ve listened to him more.

Anyway, I’m trying to get a little freelance project off the ground. He wants an illustration for his little business, but guess what I haven’t really done since I graduated… DRAW. Since the company deals with vintage guitars, I’m going to have to include illustrations of the guitars. Guess what I’ve always had trouble drawing…. oy vey. So why did I take the job? I need money and the experience. … and a challenge.

I’ve been looking at illustrators’ websites for inspiration and I am feeling inspired… and a bit jealous… and convinced that everything I’ve drawn really looks like this:

but I’m determined to start drawing again.

Side note
: I think it’s amusing that I actually used layers while drawing this in Photoshop. … and that his right hand has three fingers while his left hand has five.
